Fortnite, released on July 25, 2017, is a popular survival game developed by Epic Games. Since its release, it has managed to win the hearts of millions of gamers all over the world. The game is reported to have collected almost $10 billion in 2017 and it seems like it is going to get much bigger in the future. Fortnite already has around 125 million gamers in just one year after launch (Source).
Epic Games is now all set to launch a massive eSports tournament in 2019 called Fortnite World Cup. The prize pool for this tournament will be $100 million.
Fortnite World Cup will be different from other well-known tournaments…
We all know the popular eSports leagues, such as Blizzard’s Overwatch League and the annual Overwatch World Cup. Epic Games has decided to take a unique approach to differentiate Fortnite World Cup from other well-known eSports leagues.
Epic Games published a blog post discussing its approach. In this blog post they mentioned that they will give a lot more emphasis to the players. The players will be qualified on the merit basis.
According to their blog post, Epic Games will not sell teams or franchises and it will not allow third parties to do so as well.
Qualifiers will start this autumn…
The company will soon announce the rules, specifics about platforms, code of conduct and schedule for the upcoming qualifiers. We can expect a diversity of players participating in this tournament, as this game is freely available across all popular platforms, such as Switch, iPhone, PC, PS4, and Xbox. This game will be available to Android users in the near future.
